Color highlights are officially back. After spotting shades of red on the past runways we can confidently expect more colorful accents for this spring and summer season. After nude and natural shades dominated past summer looks, it is only the natural response to bring back color moving forward. It’s pretty much the circle of fashion and how trends work. However every re-visit of fashion trends comes with a new and fresh approach. And so will this one.
Remember the neon trend? Remember coordinating flip flops to RayBans? Or tie-dye? Remember color blocking? Colors have always been a part of fashion as they are a relatively simple method of expressing emotions and drawing attention. And when observed closely there is a rich history of certain colors and colorful outfits that defined pop culture.
From left to right: 1. Yves Saint Laurent’s garden in Marrakesh in the designers favorite color ‘Majorelle Blue’. 2. Marilyn Monroe performing ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ in 1953 in the movie ‘Gentlemen prefer blondes’. 3. One of many outfits in democratic blue from Michelle Obama during her time as a First Lady.
But for the upcoming season colors will be more mature and less edgy then they’ve been in the last couple of decades. They compliment rather than being the piece that defines the look. This might mean that colorful pieces might accompany us for a while as they are more timeless.
Classic color highlights
For classic color highlights it is best to turn to classic wardrobe staples. A colorful belt can do wonders for your look while remaining an overall classic appearance. Style them with a pair of relaxed jeans from Tôteme, a summery shirt-blouse from Eres, and Celine espadrilles. This goes well with a raffia bag or cotton tote bag.

Casual color highlights
Footwear has become much more casual within the last decades with the raise of sneakers and the recent trends like kitten heels or ballet flats. This means plenty of options to choose from. For a casual look simply combine your pair of choice with a graphic tee from Ganni, and a maxi skirt and pearl necklace from The Frankie Shop.

Playful color highlights
Colorful bags are easy to style with simple looks like jeans and t-shirts or with a more nude look. For a playful outfit, style Isabel Marant shorts with a Bottega Veneta crochet shirt and strappy sandals from Jimmy Chooc. Add a white t-shirt or tank and some golden or even colorful jewelry.
