Rainy days: good outfits no matter the weather

Outfits for rainy days can be tricky. First and foremost, they have to be practical for the weather. So we check for the one jacket that’s waterproof that we own. Then, we usually eliminate pieces we don‘t want to get destroyed. Ultimately, we are left with only a few options and need to compromise. The choice we end up with often includes pieces we don’t love. And we know, we will have to clean our shoes later. To survive and even enjoy those rainy days, it‘s time to look into some more fun and fashionable pieces. Let‘s not compromise, no matter the weather.

It‘s that time of the year, once again. Every time it rains, I look at my mid-seasonal coats and realize none of them are waterproof. Some of them might be water repelling for a short sprint outside, but when it pours, they‘re no help. So I improvise. I own a rain jacket for summer, but it needs a lot of layers to keep me warm during fall. Besides the coat, the rest of the outfit is somewhat of a compromise as well. Leather bags and shoes can‘t stand rain, so I quickly eliminate them from my options and take what‘sleft. For pants I grab what seems to be most resistant, in the moment of getting dressed.

Anyways, this needs to come to an end. Rainy days outfits can be fun. Considering the amount of rainy days Northern Europe has on a regular basis, it seems overdue to really think about good outfits that help me survive, no matter the weather. So let‘s dive in and check what works well together, what protects us and keeps us warm and what elevates out style, even under the most difficult conditions.

Classic outfits for rainy days

A classic rain outfit is timeless, simple, useful and yet, looks put together. To get that look, wear your rain coat with Tôteme rain boots, cozy cashmere socks from ARCH4, and add a pop of color with Uniqlo‘s fake leather bag. Pair the rain pieces with a striped shirt or sweater and roll up your jeans.

Elegance and a sprint through the rain don‘t really go well together. Therefor it’s important that your outfit supports you throughout the day. Style your rain coat with Chloe rain boots, a Dior bucket hat or cap, and a Tôteme silk scarf for an elegant look. Add a cashmere sweater or a turtleneck, a pair of suit pants, and a belt.

Weekly inspiration

This week‘s inspiration circles back to the activities we pick up on again once fall has arrived. When the weather doesn‘t allow to spend time outside, we visit museum to get some cultural input. In preparation of that time or to bring culture to our homes, we cuddle up on the couch and watch movies or read.

Book recommendation

Bring the museum home with ‚Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst, und das ist Kunst‘. A witty and easy read with stories behind popular art pieces throughout history. This book is a perfect in-between-read when you don‘t want to commit to a long story and it also makes a great gift.
