Whenever we go on trips we dress as the alter ego we will be that time. Especially when we go on city trips we want celebrate that short escape. We want to dress as that someone we image to be at that new place. For a city trip the agenda usually features cultural activities like museum visits or sight seeing and nice restaurant. So we will be inside as much as outside. At the same time, we probably only bring a carry-on. So this is the ultimate guide on how to dress for the short escape and how to pack smart.
As the new year is in full effect, we’re probably already kind of exhausted. The summer vacation seems miles away and we seek new inspiration. The early spring is the perfect time for a short escape. And for that particular occasion, packing can be quite the challenge. When a trip like that calls, we immediately see us in that place as who we would want to be there. Basically – we dress as our alter ego living abroad.
However, packing a carry-on and somewhat practical is challenging. We don’t want to look like a tourist, but at the same time there certain requirements to meet. Weather wise, we probably face anything from 10-20° in European cities and the planned activities are versatile. So, we will have to pack smart, make the most outfits out of what we have, and channel what we can combine whit what, so it will take us through a day in at the old town just as much as a dinner at the restaurant we saved to our destination list month ago.
Classic outfits for city trips
There is no going wrong with a grey wool blazer paired with tailored leather pants and a timeless wool coat. The pieces can be paired with other pieces, such as jeans, turtlenecks or heavy knits. For a more casual and practical day time outfit it with a pair of colorful sneakers, a cashmere sweater, and a cross body bag. To turn this into an evening look, style with kitten heel boots, a more dramatic top, and a small evening bag. Add your favorite jewelry. The boots are stretchy and their heel is low, so they are comfortable after a day of walking and will even be wearable for a short flight. That will make space in your luggage. To make even more space try back bags into bags and use evening bags to hold your flight necessities.

Casual outfits for city trips
A casual look set the mood for a fun relaxed time right from the start. To ease into the weekend away start with a base of classic blue jeans, a big teddy coat, and a colorful cross body bag. To stroll around the city during the day, war a hoodie, dad sneakers, and a beanie for extra coziness. This also makes a great airport look. To dress the base up for the evening, switch the hoodie for a white t-shirt and a tweet jacket. Add a pair of loafers with some socks for a preppy touch. If you’re unsure on what to expect out of the trip, always pack a pair of jeans that you feel comfortable in, some jewelry and accessories. The jeans is an every-occasion-piece and accessories will help you feel put together and change outfits up easily.

Playful outfits for city trips
There is a certain magic to taking a statement piece as that piece will always remind you of that trip. To style it pair the statement cardigan with a jersey dress and a cross body bag. Cross body bags are your best friend while traveling as they are practical and cute. For the daytime look pack a light puffer that folds together easily and makes a great pillow for traveling. Pair it with sneakers and keep warm with thermals and wool socks. For the night time open the dress a little and let some lace and a pop of color on your sling-backs shine through. Finally, wrap yourself in an elegant cape. The cape will be cozy when traveling and kitten heel sling-backs are much easier to pack then other heels. They won’t take up much space and are comfortable to wear after a day of walking.
